George Street North Pedestrianisation Project - Stage 1
Upcoming work in your street

Street: George Street

Section: Between Hunter Street and Bond Street (east side of George Street)

Types of work: Street improvements including footpath widening and upgrade, underground utilities/services adjustments, drainage and road improvements, lighting and landscaping works.

Stage 1 work dates:

From Monday 17 June 2024 to late-October 2024
Note: Site will be demobilised in the lead up to and during Vivid Festival (20 May – 15 June 2024) and return from 17 June 2024.

There is minor finishing works underway on George Street between Essex and Bridge Street during July and August 2023.

Night work: Monday 19 June (8pm to 5am) weather permitting.

Parking zone changes, linemarking changes on Harrington Street (between Grosvenor Street and Essex Street).

Night work: Wednesday 21 June and Thursday 22 (8pm to 5am) weather permitting.

Resurfacing and re-linemarking Essex Street (between George Street and Gloucester Street).

Weekend works:

Across three consecutive weekends to minimise our impacts and to work during the pre-determinedlight rail services shutdown 7 to 11 July, when no light rail services are operating. This will ensure the safety of our workers and the community. Weekend work dates and times are:

• 8pm Friday 23 June to 5am Monday 26 June
• 8pm Friday 30 June to 5am Monday 3 July
• 8pm Friday 7 July to 5am Monday 11 July

Footpath improvements including:

• footpath modification to suit new kerb alignment
• underground utilities/services relocations
• drainage improvements
• relocation of one smartpole.

Traffic changes including:

• kerb, gutter and footpath realignments at the intersection of George Street and Bridge/Grosvenor Street
• re-line marking at intersections.
